JWO JEWELERS OFFERS PRECIOUS GEMS SUCH AS EMERALDS & CAN ALSO REPAIR AND RESET YOUR GEMS FOR YOU!
DID YOU KNOW?
Aside from the diamond, the ruby, sapphire, emerald, pearl (not, strictly speaking, a gemstone) and opal have also been considered to be precious gems. Up to the discoveries of bulk amethyst in Brazil in the 19th century, amethyst was considered a precious stone as well, going back to ancient Greece.
What is the difference between a precious stone, a semi-precious stone, and precious gems?
A precious stone and a semi-precious stone are both classifications of gemstones. It is a portion of a mineral, which, in refined and cut form, is used to create jewelry or other embellishments. The term “precious stone” versus “semi-precious stone” is a commercial term that isn’t always applicable. They are terms that exist solely in the West and were created as a marketing tool.
Precious gems are diamonds, rubies, emeralds and sapphires. All other stones are called and considered semi-precious stones.
JWO JEWELERS CREATES PIECES TO ENJOY FOR A LIFETIME
A Little History on the Emerald!
As the birthstone for May, the emerald, a symbol of rebirth, is believed to grant the owner foresight, good fortune, and youth.
The word Emerald was derived from the word smaragdus, meaning green in Greek, was mined in Egypt as early as 330 B.C.
Many folks don’t know that an Emerald can be far more valuable per carat than a diamond. Of course clarity and color, which is measured a bit differently than diamonds play a big part. Krist at Jwo Jewelers does not sell lab created emeralds or any gems that are lab created or laser enhanced for that matter. To contact us call us at the store or schedule your appointment with either Heidi or Krist.
